Vizag Madhurawada Set for Massive Infrastructure Development
Visakhapatnam is witnessing another major urban development milestone as Madhurawada is set to receive a huge infrastructure boost worth ₹1,490.21 crore. The projects have received Centre approval under the Urban Challenge Fund and will be implemented by Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC).
The large-scale development aims to improve drainage systems, ensure continuous drinking water supply, and modernize water management infrastructure in the rapidly growing Madhurawada region of Vizag.
₹648.21 Crore Underground Drainage Project
One of the biggest components of the project is the underground drainage (UGD) system worth ₹648.21 crore. The new infrastructure will provide underground drainage connections to nearly 21,800 households in Madhurawada and nearby areas.
The project is expected to significantly improve sanitation facilities and reduce waterlogging issues during rainy seasons in Vizag
24×7 Drinking Water Supply for Vizag Homes
GVMC has also received approval for a ₹725 crore continuous drinking water supply project. Under this initiative, around 25,000 homes in Madhurawada will receive uninterrupted 24×7 drinking water supply.
The project includes:
- A 450-km pipeline network
- Advanced monitoring systems
- Modern water distribution upgrades
This initiative is expected to strengthen Vizag’s urban infrastructure and improve daily life for thousands of residents.
New Treatment Plants Planned in Vizag
As part of the modernization works, the following major facilities are also planned:
Kapuluppada STP
A 20 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) will be constructed at Kapuluppada to improve wastewater management and environmental sustainability in Vizag.
Mudasarlova Water Treatment Plant
A 65 MLD water treatment plant will be developed at Mudasarlova to support the growing drinking water needs of Madhurawada and surrounding localities.
SCADA System and Motor Replacement
An additional ₹117 crore has been allocated for SCADA systems and motor replacement works. These upgrades will help monitor and manage the city’s water supply network more efficiently using smart technology.
Target Completion by 2028
According to officials, all the approved infrastructure projects in Madhurawada are targeted for completion by 2028. The development is expected to transform the area into one of the most modern urban zones in Vizag.
With rapid residential growth and increasing demand for better civic facilities, this project marks another important step in the expansion and modernization of Visakhapatnam.
