BDL Launches Massive Naval Weapons Manufacturing Facility Near Vizag
India’s defence manufacturing sector is getting a major boost as Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) officially began development of a large-scale advanced manufacturing complex at T. Siraspalli village in Anakapalli district near Visakhapatnam.
The foundation stone for the prestigious defence project was laid today, marking another significant milestone for the growing industrial and defence ecosystem around Vizag and Andhra Pradesh.
160-Acre Defence Manufacturing Hub
The upcoming BDL facility will spread across nearly 160 acres and will focus on manufacturing advanced underwater weapon systems and naval combat systems for the Indian Navy.
The project will include:
- Advanced manufacturing and assembly infrastructure
- Modern testing facilities
- Explosive handling systems
- High-security defence production units
- Dedicated green belt development within the campus
This major investment further strengthens Vizag’s strategic importance in India’s defence and naval sectors.
Boost for Vizag Defence Corridor
With the presence of the Eastern Naval Command, shipbuilding industries, defence research facilities, and upcoming strategic projects, Visakhapatnam is rapidly emerging as one of India’s key defence manufacturing destinations.
The new BDL manufacturing complex is expected to support indigenous defence production under the Government of India’s “Make in India” initiative while also generating employment opportunities and industrial growth in the region.
The project highlights Andhra Pradesh’s growing role in national defence infrastructure and advanced military technology manufacturing.
