Vizag Metro Project Resurvey Underway, Revised DPR Expected Next Month
The proposed Vizag Metro Rail Project has moved into another important stage as Andhra Pradesh Minister Narayana confirmed that the Central Government has requested a resurvey for both the Vizag and Vijayawada Metro projects.
Following the Centre’s instructions, work on the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) is currently underway. Officials expect the updated DPR to be completed within next month after the resurvey process is finalized.
The development is considered a significant step toward bringing Andhra Pradesh’s first Metro Rail systems closer to implementation.
Centre Asked for Resurvey of Metro Projects
According to Minister Narayana, the Central Government requested updated surveys and revised planning details for:
- Vizag Metro Rail Project
- Vijayawada Metro Rail Project
The resurvey is aimed at refining route alignments, infrastructure planning, projected passenger demand, station positioning, and overall project feasibility.
Once completed, the revised DPR will be submitted to the Centre for approvals and sanctions.
Andhra Pradesh Government to Seek Central Approval
After the revised DPR preparation is completed, the Andhra Pradesh Government will approach the Central Government seeking official sanctions and approvals for both Metro Rail projects.
The Metro projects are considered key infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving urban transportation, reducing congestion, and supporting future city expansion.
Vizag Metro Project Details
The proposed Phase 1 of the Vizag Metro Rail project is planned across two major corridors covering approximately 46.23 KM with around 42 stations.

- Vizag Steel Plant to Kommadi
- Approx. 34.40 KM
Corridor 2
- Gurudwara to Old Post Office
- Approx. 5.08 KM
The project is expected to connect residential areas, commercial zones, tourism hubs, and industrial regions across Visakhapatnam.
