Vizag World Environment Day 2026: Chandrababu Naidu Leads 5.5 Km Bicycle Rally
Visakhapatnam (Vizag): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu led a grand 5.5-kilometre bicycle rally in Vizag on June 5, 2026, as part of the World Environment Day celebrations. The event highlighted the importance of environmental conservation, green transportation, and healthy living among citizens across Andhra Pradesh.
The rally attracted hundreds of participants, including public representatives, government officials, students, and environmental enthusiasts. Despite the challenging weather conditions, with temperatures crossing 35°C and humidity levels exceeding 70%, the Chief Minister successfully completed the ride and encouraged people to adopt eco-friendly lifestyles.
Bicycle Rally Route Across Vizag
The bicycle rally commenced from the Andhra University Engineering Grounds helipad and passed through several key locations in Vizag, including:
- Three Town Police Station
- Polamamba Temple
- Waltair Area
- Beach Road
The rally concluded at the Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach on Beach Road.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu completed the 5.5-km route in just 21 minutes and 18 seconds, showcasing his commitment to fitness and environmental awareness.
Promoting Green Mobility in Andhra Pradesh
The event was organized to promote cycling as a sustainable mode of transport and to reduce dependence on fuel-powered vehicles. During the rally, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for citizens to embrace environmentally responsible habits and support initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions.
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) also launched a statewide awareness campaign encouraging people to use bicycles and electric vehicles wherever possible.
Call for Tree Plantation
As part of the World Environment Day celebrations in Vizag, Chandrababu Naidu planted a sapling and appealed to every citizen of Andhra Pradesh to plant at least one tree.
He stated that large-scale tree plantation drives are essential for combating climate change, improving air quality, and ensuring a greener future for coming generations.
Andhra University to Become a Net-Zero Campus
During his visit, the Chief Minister expressed concern over the current green cover at Andhra University, which stands at around 25%.
He directed university officials to take proactive measures to increase greenery and transform Andhra University into a net-zero campus. The initiative aims to make the university a model institution for environmental sustainability in Andhra Pradesh.
No Vehicle Fridays Initiative
Another major announcement made during the event was the promotion of “No Vehicle Fridays.” Government employees, students, and the general public are being encouraged to avoid using personal vehicles one day every week and opt for cycling, walking, or public transportation instead.
The initiative is expected to reduce pollution levels and create greater awareness about sustainable urban mobility in Vizag and across Andhra Pradesh.
