Visakhapatnam: Preparations for the GVMC General Elections 2026 are gaining pace, with GVMC Commissioner and Additional Election Authority Ketan Garg, IAS, reviewing arrangements at proposed polling material distribution centres.
Ketan Garg inspected the Government Polytechnic College at Kancharapalem and the Zilla Parishad High School at Gopalapatnam, where election material distribution arrangements are being planned.
Focus on Smooth Polling Material Distribution
Officials were instructed to complete arrangements in advance and ensure that polling material reaches polling stations on time. The Commissioner emphasized route maps and clear information displays to help polling personnel move efficiently.
Arrangements are also being reviewed for reception and attendance counters, police counters, strong rooms, parking, entry and exit routes, CCTV surveillance and public address systems.
Basic Facilities and Security
Officials have been directed to provide essential facilities such as drinking water, food and toilets for polling personnel. Coordination with the Police Department will also be maintained for effective security arrangements.
The preparations are part of the wider GVMC election plan covering 120 wards, 1,990 polling stations and 18,37,901 voters. Around 14,328 polling personnel are expected to be deployed, with an additional 20% kept in reserve.
Officials have been instructed to follow State Election Commission guidelines and ensure transparent and efficient conduct of the GVMC elections.
