A tragic incident unfolded on Friends’ Day in Visakhapatnam, where two youngsters drowned at Patta Gangavaram Beach in Pedagantyada Mandal.

According to preliminary information, a group of seven friends, including four young women and three young men, reached the beach at around 8:00 AM to spend time together and take photographs.

During the visit, Neethu (18), a resident of Jalareepeta and a second-year Intermediate student, reportedly slipped into the sea after being caught by strong waves.

Seeing her in distress, Damodar, a resident of Pendurti, immediately entered the water in an attempt to rescue her. Unfortunately, both were swept away by the strong currents and drowned.

The incident has left both families and friends in deep shock. According to local sources, Damodar had recently become engaged to Kanakamahalakshmi, and preparations for their marriage were expected to begin soon.

After receiving information about the incident, the New Port Police rushed to the spot and initiated rescue and investigation procedures. Authorities are examining the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
